Pembrokeshire Local Action Network for Enterprise and Development

Pembrokeshire has hundreds of festivals and events ranging from internationally renowned music festivals to local community based events. Well-organised community festivals and events contribute to and celebrate an area’s unique sense of place.  PLANED encourages and supports communities who wish to develop events which can promote a community's environment, heritage, culture and local products. These can also be a resource for local tourism.

PLANED established and continues to support the Festival and Events Network in Pembrokeshire. This brings together the organisers of festivals and events across the county to share information and expertise.  A training course on different aspects of how to run an event has been developed and networking events help organisers keep up-to-date with changing legislation.

As part of the LEADER+ Action 2 Festivals and Events project, PLANED collaborated with other Local Action Groups (LAGs) in Wales to share ideas and best practice among festival and event organisers.  Under this project festival and event organisers were encouraged to network with each another and study visits were arranged to Llangollen Food Festival and to the Lanark Medieval Festival in Scotland.

A Festival and Events Guide for Pembrokeshire is published each year.

A Guide to Best Practice in how to involve communities in the celebration of their heritage and culture was developed under the EU funded LEADER programme.

PLANED has supported the development and planning of numerous festivals in the county e.g. Narberth Food Festival, Frenni Food Festival, Pembroke Festival and Pembroke Potato Festival.  PLANED also encouraged communities to promote the enjoyment of the Milford Haven Waterway with the Experience Pembrokeshire Waterway event, and in 2007 PLANED supported the organisers of the international firework competition which attracted 20,000 spectators to the Millford Haven Waterway.  Over two nights the Waterway was lit up by spectacular pyrotechnic displays.

Now in its third year Preseli Walking Festival brings together events and festivals taking place in north Pembrokeshire during May. PLANED assists the organisers with marketing and a launch event in 2010 featured the Walking Weatherman, Derek Brockway of BBC TV.   PLANED has also supported the county’s agricultural shows.
