VALUING COMMUNITIES

The National Assembly recognises the importance of local people working together to address local problems. One of the aims of the Objective 1 Programme is to "harness, enhance and nurture the wealth of community skills, knowledge and ideas available in every rural community through the development of projects and strategies that address local needs.

The Pembrokeshire Local Action Plan also recognises the need to involve local people by building on "Pembrokeshire's self help tradition"

How do you see the future of your Community?

PLANED believes that:

• The skills, knowledge and ideas of local people working together can address many local problems.

• By encouraging local people to take a fresh look at their own area new and innovative solutions to local needs can be developed.

• By enabling all sections of the community to join in and by seeking to bring communities together, local people can promote projects of long-term benefit.

• By building partnerships and providing access to a range of specialist support, communities can do much to improve their quality of life.

How Will PLANED Help?

• Assist local groups with the development and implementation of community, social, economic and cultural projects which they have identified for the enhancement of community life, including new activities and facilities in village halls to create a community focus for local development;

• Help you to protect, enhance and consolidate heritage and environmental assets, which are important to the communities and which will contribute to local tourism development, and enhance local skills;

• Help you to organise new activities, festivals and events in your community; · Ensure easy access to specialist, technical, advisory and practical support
