Community & Sustainable Development
VALUING THE ENVIRONMENT
THE COMMUNITY APPROACH
Make your ideas count -
Take a fresh look at your neighbourhood and get involved in projects that will
make a lasting impact.
PLANED's 'Valuing the
Environment' initiative provides everyone with the opportunity to become
more involved with protecting and enhancing Pembrokeshire's environment
for future generations.
Together with our specialist partners we will help you and your community
to gain the knowledge and skills to turn a good idea into reality. Regular
information and training sessions will include fieldwork and visits. These
will help to highlight what is special in your neighbourhood and to identify
opportunities for enhancing or restoring the features and places your community
values.
The aim is to help improve the
environment and encourage a sustainable approach. Projects could include
local wildlife areas or recycling initiatives. Perhaps you want to celebrate
what makes your part of Pembrokeshire unique by embarking on an environmental sculpture
or parish map? Or you may wish to research Pembrokeshire rich heritage.
Our environment is special
Pembrokeshire is special because of its wild coastline, historic landscape,
wooded river valleys, rich farmland, ancient hedges and hills of legend and
mystery. All of these places are home to a wealth of rare and endangered
species including dragonflies, orchids, bats, seabirds and seals. You and
your community can get involved in identifying and conserving the habitats
and species highlighted in the Pembrokeshire Local Biodiversity Action
Plan.
Wildlife also depends on green spaces in our neighbourhood, including gardens, commons, meadows and churchyards. Schools,WI and YFC groups often contribute to keeping these areas in good condition. You may have some ideas about potential project in your own locality.
