Digital training for a new age

Digital Assets and Training for Rural Innovative Solutions, or DATRIS is a new mentor training programme, providing IT and digital support services across Pembrokeshire.

Community halls and venues are at the heart of community life and the DATRIS project will support hall committees in rural Pembrokeshire to work in a more collaborative way, sharing their assets of skills, knowledge and resources, and connect them digitally across the county.

Project Coordinator, John Ewart said: “Computers, websites and mobile phones are a part of our daily lives and yet many of us have can have difficulty using them. The aim of the DATRIS project is to help people within your own community who would then be able to help others in using Information Technology. I keen to be able to offer training and support will be given to anyone who wishes to become an IT mentor.

“It’s more evident now how important it is to get people connected in a digital age. Using technology to stay in touch can have a major impact on reducing social isolation and loneliness and can enrich and enhance people’s lives.”

The DATRIS project will enable and support locally led solutions for rural communities that reach out to individuals and groups who may experience poverty, isolation, social and health issues or digital exclusion.

A number of individuals from each rural community will be trained as Mentors, developing their IT and communication skills.  The Mentors can then help support others in their community to increase local knowledge and access to services and enhance wellbeing and community resilience.

Whatever the training in Information Technology is needed, DATRIS can either offer training to you in your community or can put you in touch with people who would be able to provide you with more specific help.
